Guitar Strings
There is no other instrument with as much presence and cultural identity as the guitar. Almost everyone knows a lot of different guitar sounds, from the intense crunch of metal to soft, upbeat acoustic folk music. And behind all of these iconic guitar sounds there are huge string ensembles. Just as a saxophonist change picks from time to time or a drummer replaces sticks, it’s important to put new guitar strings on your guitar every now and then in order to own and play one.
So what should you look for in a number of strings? There is no answer. Returning to the same analogies, every horn player has a preferred reed thickness and shape, and every drummer likes a set of sticks with a particular balance and tip shape. It’s the same with strings: they have different thicknesses and different materials to choose from, and ultimately it is a matter of preference which one suits you best.
